On March 10th, on the online community Nate, a post titled ‘An Actress Whose Works Have Never Failed’ drew much attention. The original poster made a compilation of the productions South Korean actress Kim Tae-Ri has participated in since her acting debut. And as one of my all-time favourite South Korean actresses, I thought that I would share with you all the absolute gem and powerhouse that is Kim Tae-Ri.

Kim Tae-Ri (김태리) is a South Korean actress. One of my favourites, may I add. After graduating from Kyung Hee University, Tae-Ri worked as a technical worker of a theatre troupe in Daehakro. Tae-Ri acted in plays such as ‘Pansy’ and ‘To Ask About Love’ and stared in the short drama film ‘Moonyoung’ in 2015. After joining J-Wide Company, she appeared in several TV Commercials, which staring in short films, and auditioning for film roles but faced multiple rejections. In 2016, Kim Tae-Ri made her feature film debut as one of the two female leads in Park Chan-Wook’s ‘The Handmaiden’, where she was chosen from 1,500 actresses who auditioned for the role.
In ‘The Handmaiden’ (아가씨), Tae-Ri brilliantly portrayed Sook-Hee, an orphaned pickpocket who receives an offer from a con man and approaches a Japanese heiress to cheat her out of her fortune. Thanks to her excellent performance, Tae-Ri won Best New Actress at major domestic and foreign awards such as Blue Dragons Film Awards, Director’s Cut Awards, and Asian Film Awards. The popularity of ‘The Handmaiden’ later led to the 2017 theatrical release of ‘Moonyoung.’
Throughout 2017-2018, Kim Tae-Ri stared in the films ‘1987’, ‘Little Forest’ (리틀 포레스트), and the drama ‘Mr. Sunshine’ (미스터 션샤인). Released one after another, all three of them became hits. Kim Tae-Ri won the Actress Of The Year Award for her role in ‘Little Forest’ at the Director’s Cut Awards, and also received a commendation from the Minister Of Culture, Sports and Tourism. At the 2019 Baeksang Arts Awards held the following year, she was nominated for Best Actress in TV for ‘Mr. Sunshine’.
In 2019, Tae-Ri was casted in Korea’s first space science fiction film ‘Space Sweepers’ as Captain Jang. ‘Space Sweepers’ was released on Netflix in May 2021 and topped the global Netflix movie rankings a day after its release.
More recently, in the first half of 2022, Kim Tae-Ri took on the role of fencing gold medalist Na Hee-Do in the melodrama” Twenty-Five, twenty-one” (스물다섯 스물하나), making this her first K-Drama appearance in 4 years since ‘Mr. Sunshine’. ‘Twenty-Five, twenty-one’ has been well received with a 6.3% viewer rating from the first episode. And it also happens to be one of my favourite ongoing K-Dramas.

All the films and dramas that Kim Tae-Ri had been appearing in have been gaining much popularity, with each one bringing more success to the actress. She is one of my favourite South Korean actresses and absolutely smashes every role that she is cast in.
I do not doubt for a second that the next film or drama she stars in will be trending in no time. Kim Tae-Ri, Fighting!
