Let Me Be Your Knight (너의 밤이 되어줄게) is a Korean Drama that aired from November 7th, 2021, until January 23rd, 2022. The synopsis is “a story of romance and healing between one of the world's greatest idols who is suffering from somnambulism and the doctor who is secretly treating him” - IMDB.

Let Me Be Your Knight follows the fictional idol band LUNA and their leader, Yoon Tae-In; portrayed by U-KISS and former UNB member Lee Jun-Young, who started to show signs of somnambulism, or sleepwalking after the recent failure of LUNA’s most recent album. With stress mounting, Yoon Tae-In’s condition worsens, leaving him to wonder how he is going to get his current condition under control. In Yoon-Ju; played by actress Jung In-Sun, works as a tour guide who one day, dreams about buying her childhood home. After being conned out of her money and being kidnapped by loan sharks, she gets mistaken as her twin sister Kang Sung-Ju, who is an expert in sleep disorders, and winds up involved with LUNA and treating its leader Tae-In. In need pf a place to stay and the money to pay off her debt, Yoon-Ju accepts the job and assumes her sister’s identity in secrecy.
This is the third Korean Drama that I have watched until the end, after Hotel Del Luna and Hometown Cha Cha Cha. If you are a sucker for Rom Coms, then I highly suggest Let Me Be Your Knight. It was funny to see In Yoon-Ju trying to not blow her cover that she is not really Kang Sung-Ju, and it was lovely to see Yoon-Ju’s and Tae-In’s budding relationship grow and bloom over the 12 episodes. That alongside the multiple scandals that LUNA go through and each member’s past coming up throughout the series adds on suspense while also playing with your heartstrings, making you hate characters and feel bad for others.
Not to mention the OST, which is absolutely stunning. I don’t think that I would even be able to choose a favourite song of LUNA. Each has its own unique sound that ranges from a mix of rock and pop to an all-out ballad accompanied by some immaculate and beautiful piano playing.
Something else I want to point out is that there is an official Instagram account for LUNA. It was made for the series and on it you will find that Big Ocean ENM, who I believe made the account as it is followed from the LUNA Instagram, has made a series of posts that you may see on some real K-Pop idol group accounts. They have made it seem that LUNA has been around for a while, given when you scroll down you will see album covers, depicting that they are not new to the idol group world. In the drama, it is said to be that LUNA debuted circa 2016 with their debut song Eternal and their debut album Lullaby. They even went out of the way to make a special album called Moonlight alongside two versions of the album, Eclipse, and Full Moon, and on top of that, a layout of the album packaging, which shows the covers for both versions, a CD, folded poster, 2 photocards, a bookmark, a sticker, and a polaroid photo. Might as well make them real along with the Lightstick that is shown in the drama so that we Moonlights (LUNA’s Fandom) can have them!

Let Me Be Your Knight is the second drama directed by Ahn Ji-Sook, a female director who 2 years prior to Let Me Be Your Knight’s filming, had directed Kill It, which was a thriller back in 2019. Written by Seo Jeong-Eun and Yoo So-Won, the narrative and dialogue were beautifully woven together with the acting from the cast to bring out all the emotions, whether it’s joy and happiness or despair and utter sadness, it made you care for these fictional characters.
One element of this drama that I really found fascinating was the use of the many scandals that LUNA deals with throughout the series. The scandals that happen in the realm of K-Pop are common with international artists as well, but the difference is that Korean artists are held to a much higher standard (probably due to the “idol” title and the fact that they have quite a lot of influence and power over their fans). Every small detail and thing that a K-Pop artist does is looked at under a microscope so much that if something that they say or do goes public, they cannot escape it. In the case of LUNA, some of the scandals that happened could have resulted in one of the members being removed from the group, or even the group’s disbandment.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? Absolutely. Let Me Be Your Knight has now taken its place as my no. 1 drama on my list. If you are a romance and comedy fan that wants to dive into the realm of Korean dramas, this would be a great place to start.
